Oriental East, the popular restaurant in the Blair Park Shopping Center on East-West Highway, will close its doors at the end of the month.
In a note to customers posted on its door, the management noted the upcoming renovations to shopping center made this a good time “to take a much-needed break.”
The restaurant opened on Sept. 9, 1990 and features Cantonese cuisine. Its dim sum is particularly well liked, especially on weekends when people line up outside long before opening time to savor the different offerings from rolling carts.
The Tower Companies, owner and operator of The Blairs apartments and the shopping center, is in the early stages of a 15- to 20-year project that will transform the complex into a more urbanized environment with parks and green space accenting apartments, townhomes, offices and retail.
The company recently began leasing apartments in the first phase of The Pearl, part of the redevelopment of the property.
In the note to customers, the managers said the decision to close was made “with heavy hearts,” adding, “Not only have we witnessed the resurgence of Silver Spring, we’ve created lasting friendships within this wonderful community which we will always cherish.”
Sept. 30 will be the restaurant’s last day of operation.
