Street parking restrictions will be in effect in the Silver Spring Central Business District during Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s safety surge scheduled for Oct. 29 to Nov. 22, according to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.

On-street parking will not be allowed from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, but will be permitted after 8 p.m. weekdays and on weekends. The restrictions will be in effect on Georgia Ave. from Spring St. to the D.C. line and on Colesville Rd. to the Silver Spring Transit Center (see map below).

The restrictions are intended to help increase road capacity during a period when the Red Line will be closed from Fort Totten to NoMa. The surge is expected to cause major delays on the line and an increase in drivers heading to and from the District.

Violators will be towed to Lot 2 – Planning Place at 8781 Georgia Ave. If towed, drivers can call 301.279.8000.
