The Pennyworth Thrift Shop will reopen this weekend (April 13 and 14) in a new location after a four-month hiatus, according to board member Lesley Rogers.
The shop will be located at Grace Episcopal Church, 1607 Grace Church Rd., just off Georgia Avenue.
For now, Saturday hours will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the shop will open Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (except Easter Sunday, April 21), with weekday hours possible in the future. There is free parking in the lot behind Grace Church.
The shop announced the closure of its location on Bonifant Street in September 2018 and shut down in mid-December.
At the time, then-board president Jewell Little said, “Over the past year, the sales at the Pennyworth Shop have declined. A sufficient number of volunteers have not been available, and rent in the downtown Silver Spring area has been going up. Compounding this, the Purple Line construction threatens the existence of the shop.”
The shop is accepting donations of seasonal adult clothing and accessories, as well as select household items and children’s toys.
Pennyworth is not accepting books, electronics, children’s or youth clothes, towels, bed linens, furniture, or under garments.
