UP—Healing, Wellness, Adventure and Silver Spring Cares have teamed up for a Holiday Wellness Benefit for Shepherd’s Table tomorrow night, Dec. 1.

“When you look out the window [of UP’s studio], I look at the need every single day with the homeless lining up to get meals every single day, three times a day,” said Dave Giacomin, co-owner of UP. “It’s hard for me to sit there and not want to do anything about that as a human being that walks this Earth that has a soul.”

During conversations with staff from Shepherd’s Table, Silver Spring Cares and Reemberto Rodriguez, director of the Silver Spring Regional Service Center, Giacomin realized that “raising money for [the homeless], you can do so much more if you give the money to the right people and let them do their thing.”

The team has brought together local artisans and vendors (many from Silver Spring) who specialize in homemade crafts and goods, many with a wellness focus, to sell their products for the benefit at UP’s studio on the second floor of 8083 Georgia Ave. from 6-9 p.m.

Vendors will be offering organic skin care products, massages, candles, jewelry and art, among other items.

The studio will also establish a permanent art collection for sale with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Shepherd’s Table. Part of the collection will be from Marylou Katherine Hartmann, who used to own the studio where UP is now located.

Any proceeds for art sales after the benefit also will benefit Shepherd’s Table, who will make a presentation during the event, overlooking the people who gather across Georgia Avenue , the ones who will be helped by this fundraiser.

“One of the things we’ll be talking about is the need that is standing right there in front of you,” Giacomin said.

McGinty’s will be catering light hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served. Tickets for the benefit are $15 online and $20 at the door; all proceeds go to Shepherd’s Table.
