Questions and rumors continue to swirl around the area concerning the closing and relocation of the U.S. Post Office in the Spring Center on 16th Street.

Here is the official word on the current status of the office, from the USPS Corporate Communications office in response to a Source query:

“We are still in active negotiations, but expect developments within the coming weeks.”

The post office is now the only business left in the Spring Center since Patient First urgent care opened in its new location last week.

The center’s parking lot is almost completely fenced in, anticipating Purple Line work, but access to the post office has been maintained, as shown below.

Options for nearby post offices include one at 110 University Blvd., W. in Four Corners and 10325 Kensington Pkwy. in Kensington.

Shipping and packing services also are available at The UPS Store in Woodmoor Shopping Center (at the intersection of Colesville Road and University Boulevard), The UPS Store at 8705 Colesville Rd., Suite B, FedEx Office on the corner of Wayne and Georgia avenues, and Adulis MCS Pack and Ship, 8205 Fenton St.
