Hen Quarter, a Southern-themed restaurant and bourbon bar, has opened on Ellsworth Drive in the space formerly occupied by Austin Grill.

The menu includes updated Southern fare including Southern-fried chicken, Virginia ham steaks, shrimp and grits, short ribs and barbecued chicken, along with accompaniments such as collard greens, pickled okra and fried green tomatoes.

The bar features more than 40 different bourbons, along with a dozen types of rye whisky and a selection of Scotch and Irish whiskeys.

The restaurant is open Monday-Thursday 11 a.m.-11 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.-midnight, Saturday 10 a.m.-midnight, and Sunday 10 a.m.-10 p.m. It offers happy hours weekdays and brunch Saturday and Sunday.

The restaurant is operated by the same ownership group that ran Austin Grill and currently operates American Tap Room restaurants in Rockville, Bethesda and Reston, Va.

The group recently opened the first Hen Quarter concept in Alexandria, Va.
