About 30 people attended a ribbon-cutting and “rededication” ceremony yesterday to mark the official reopening of a local favorite, the Quarry House Tavern.
After experiencing construction delays, HerbaFi will undergo final inspections next week and plans to open in May, according to founder Zeina Frayha and her husband, Terry Saad.
The gas station at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road that closed recently in preparation for construction of a new Residence Inn has reopened temporarily.
“I started mowing lawns in the downtown Silver Spring area off Dale Drive where I grew up at about age 12. Built the business up during high school and continued while at University of Maryland. After college I got a real job and hated it! So I started doing landscaping full time.”
Arts on the Block has been chosen to occupy about 4,000 square feet of space on the first floor of the Silver Spring Library, moving from its Kensington location.
An advisory group of more than 30 Silver Spring property owners, business owners, and downtown stakeholders have been meeting since the Fall to lay plans to form a Business Improvement District.
“Silver Spring Creative Reuse is a community grassroots project. We collect unwanted art and office supplies and donate them to local teachers for educational and creative repurposing. We believe that teachers should not have to pay out of pocket for materials that already exist for free in our communities. By diverting these materials from the waste stream and into our classrooms we are reducing our environmental impact and teaching sustainability to the next generation.”
The Quarry House Tavern will reopen on Sunday, according to a report in The Washington Post.
