The Urban Winery and BIBIBOP Asian Grill are participating in the first statewide Maryland Restaurant Week, and All Set Restaurant & Bar is participating in The Greater Washington DC Black Restaurant Week. Both are running through Sunday, September 27.

Demolition of 8787 Georgia Ave., the former home of the county’s Planning Department, is slated to begin by the end of the year in preparation for a 2021 groundbreaking of the redevelopment of the property. The county chose partners Bozzuto and StonebridgeCarras in 2013 for a two-part redevelopment effort, according to Devon Hastie, development manager for Bozzuto. The first part, construction of a new office building for the county in Wheaton, has been completed.
A former office building at 700 Roeder Rd. in Silver Spring is being converted to 35 condos, according to information provided to the Source from Kadida Development Group, a partner in the project. Plans for Elan, as it will be known, include the creation of five studio-size units, 25 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom units. Pricing is expected to range from about $199,000 to the low $400s, KDG said.
Spice Street, a restaurant promising “innovative Indian cuisine,” has begun hiring in anticipation of opening in the first half of October, according to owner Navjot Singh. The restaurant will focus on a smaller staff to start, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, but Singh expects the number will grow later. The full menu is still under development, he said.
Easterseals DC MD VA has promoted Silver Spring resident Dr. Anneke Vandenbroek, Ph.D., ABPP to director of the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals. Vandenbroek was the deputy director of the clinic, which is one of country’s 16 Cohen Veterans Network mental health clinics. The clinics provide veteran and military families with behavioral health services.
