There are now three local businesses teamed up and operating in Moorenko’s Ice Cream Café at 8030 Georgia Ave., according to Moorenko’s Twitter feed.
The county’s Planning Department staff identified four themes that will guide the next stage in the process of developing a new Silver Spring Downtown and Adjacent Communities sector plan. The four themes—diversity, resiliency, connectivity and community health—grew out of a series of online meetings and other conversations during the “visioning” portion of the planning process, which took place in the spring.
The Angry Jerk, advertising “authentic Caribbean cuisine,” will open at 8223 Georgia Ave., the former location of the Big Greek Café, which moved down the street several months ago.
Now that pandemic-related capacity restrictions have been lifted, three Silver Spring venues for live music are booking bands and beginning to host live music again. Two of those venues, Silver Strings Restaurant and Bar and the Sligo Creek Golf Course, will feature performances starting this Friday, June 4.
Silver Spring-based Truebill, a personal finance app, has raised $45 million in a Series D round of funding for a total of $85 million the company has raised since its founding in 2011. The funding, led by Accel with participation from existing backers Bessemer Venture Partners, Cota Capital and Eldridge Industries, will allow the company “to expand its platform of financial management tools to give users more visibility and control of their money.”
Hug Lounge is now open at 949 Bonifant St., the former location of Pennyworth Thrift Shop, according to the company’s website. The menu largely consists of Ethiopian cuisine, with breakfast offered along with smoothies and several fish dishes.
AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center will reopen for in-person screening on Friday, May 28, the organization has announced. All patrons will be required to buy advance tickets online. All seats will be reserved.
The Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites dual brand hotel at 8728 Colesville Rd. has finished a year-long, complete renovation, according to a press release from Level 3 Design Group. The Los Angeles-based design firm was the interior design firm for the project.
