Montgomery Parks is now accepting applications for permits to reserve park activity buildings and picnic shelters, according to a press release. Residents will be able to use these buildings as of June 12, officials said.
The county’s Community Use of Public Facilities office will begin accepting applications Monday, May 24 for events in the Silver Spring Civic Building and on Veterans Plaza, according to a Facebook post from Eric Rasch, operations manager for the facility. The building will be open for events as of June 1.
The YMCA in Silver Spring will be one of the first branches of the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington to add pickleball to its programs, according to a press release. The Y plans to add more than 20 courts in Silver Spring, YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase and YMCA Arlington Tennis and Squash Center, with twice as many added by the end of 2022.

The music director of WOWD Takoma Radio is looking for host venues as he plans to bring back the YardWork series of pandemic-safe jazz concerts for a second season beginning in April. Michael Phillips produced 54 outdoor, COVID-safe concerts in local people’s yards last year and, with nice weather on the way, is looking to do it again.
The county’s Commission for Women is looking for entries in its fourth annual Girl Power Contest, organizers announced. The contest, in recognition of Women’s History Month, is open to any county resident aged five and older.
