Spice Street Restaurant Hiring, Planning Early October Opening

Spice Street, a restaurant promising “innovative Indian cuisine,” has begun hiring in anticipation of opening in the first half of October, according to owner Navjot Singh. The restaurant will focus on a smaller staff to start, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, but Singh expects the number will grow later. The full menu is still under development, he said.

Council Approves Order Loosening Some COVID-19 Restrictions

The County Council yesterday approved a revised executive order from County Executive Marc Elrich that loosens some restrictions imposed on activities to address the COVID-19 pandemic. The council, sitting as the Board of Health, then adopted Executive Order No. 098-20, COVID-19 Local Order – Amending and Restating Order dated August 5, 2020, as a Board of Health regulation.

Easterseals Announces New Director of Cohen Clinic in Silver Spring

Easterseals DC MD VA has promoted Silver Spring resident Dr. Anneke Vandenbroek, Ph.D., ABPP to director of the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals. Vandenbroek was the deputy director of the clinic, which is one of country’s 16 Cohen Veterans Network mental health clinics. The clinics provide veteran and military families with behavioral health services.

Two Silver Spring Brewers Join Campaign to Thank Pandemic First Responders, Essential Workers

Two Silver Spring breweries have joined other local brewers and organizations to launch a campaign to thank first responders and other frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Denizens Brewing Company and Silver Branch Brewing Co. are part of #CraftingGratitude, an initiative begun by @TheBeerFairiez, a husband and wife team of Jen and Josh Beinstock that’s described as “a Montgomery County-based community social and networking group.”

Police Looking for Help to Identify Robbery Suspects

Montgomery County detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify two suspects in a June robbery in downtown Silver Spring. The victim flagged down an officer from the 3rd District at about 6:15 p.m. on June 8 and reported that he had just been assaulted and robbed as he walked on Colesville Road toward East-West Highway.

Board of Elections Approves County High Schools for Voting Centers

The Montgomery County Board of Elections has approved the county’s high schools as locations for voting centers for the Nov. 3 election. The list includes Montgomery Blair High School, 51 University Blvd. E., and Northwood High School, 919 University Blvd. W. In addition, the board approved 11 locations for early voting, including the Silver Spring Civic Building.

Montgomery Parks to Open Regional, Recreational Fields Sept. 1

Montgomery Parks will open access to regional and recreational park athletic fields for certain youth and adult games beginning Sept. 1, according to an announcement yesterday. Availability will be limited to low- and medium-risk sports, as defined by the Maryland Sports Commission Return to Play Committee Report, for groups of 50 or fewer.

Mandalay Restaurant to Remain on Bonifant Street Until Mid-2021

Mandalay Restaurant and Café will continue operating at 930 Bonifant St. until mid-2021, according to an email to the Source from manager Joe Myint. In December of last year, the Myints announced their intention to move in August 2020 to a location in Washington D.C. near the former Walter Reed complex at 7302 Georgia Ave. N.W.
