Fat Fingers began operating last week with a soft opening at 8213 Georgia Ave. in anticipation of its grand opening, tentatively scheduled for August 19. The restaurant features comfort foods such as several types of cheesesteaks, burgers and other sandwiches, pizzas, half smokes and hot dogs, three salads, fish sandwiches, a crab cake, and side dishes such as mac and cheese.

Montgomery County will again offer matching grants of up to $1,000 to help fund neighborhood events, according to an announcement from Silver Spring Regional Services Center Director Reemberto Rodriguez. Neighborhood organizations, block groups, tenant groups, civic groups and similar organizations are eligible to apply to help fund events and activities that “promote community engagement, encourage capacity building, networking and stimulate the local economy.”
The right-hand lane of southbound Colesville Road will be closed between Second Avenue and East-West Highway beginning in mid-July for construction. Other work planned in July will affect Wayne Avenue, Bonifant Street, and Springvale Road as well.

Construction at Takoma Park Middle School has forced the cancellation of the city’s Fourth of July fireworks show, according to the Takoma Park Independence Day Committee. Instead, the organizers have planned an evening block party on Maple Avenue in front to the Takoma Park Community Center with food trucks, activities for children, and live music.
