County Seeks Volunteers to Participate in Thanksgiving Parade

The county is looking for volunteers to assist with various aspects of the annual Thanksgiving parade this Saturday, Nov. 23. Volunteers must be at least 13 or older and plan to meet at the civic building, then expect to remain at the parade site from 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Opportunities include dressing up in costumes as elves or pilgrims to ride on floats, as penguins or reindeer to walk in the parade, to walk along and handle balloons and other inflatables, or act as unit leaders.

Don Pollo Isn’t—and Is—Coming to Ellsworth Place

Don Pollo Peruvian Chicken is not coming to Ellsworth Place, contrary to what was previously reported elsewhere. However, Don Pollo—Pollo al la Brasa, will open in the space formerly occupied by Noodles & Co., according to Bryan Ramos of Retail22, who brokered the lease agreement with the mall’s owner, GBT Realty.

“Accidental Candidate” Reveals His Planning Priorities

The newest commissioner on the Montgomery County Planning Board refers to himself as “the accidental candidate” when talking about his appointment. Partap Verma, who joined the board in July, looks at this as a natural transformation from work he began after moving to the Forest Glen area in 2013. His priorities include pedestrian safety, affordable housing, and the upcoming Silver Spring master plan process.

Developer Hires Consultant for Food Hall/City Market in Apartment Project

Washington Property Company has entered into a contract with Colichio Consulting to assist with the establishment of a food hall/city market in its next Silver Spring apartment project, Solaire 8200 Dixon, the company announced. The market concept was first revealed in May by Charles K. Nulsen III, WPC president, in an interview with the Source.

The owner of a vape and hookah lounge in Montgomery Hills has applied for a liquor license and indicated her intent to convert the space into a sports bar, according to documents filed with the county Board of License Commissioners. If granted, beer, wine and liquor could be sold on premises only from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Sunday, and Friday and Saturday to 3 a.m.

Police Seek Public’s Help to Identify Burglary Suspects

Montgomery County police are asking for the public’s help to identify two suspects in a burglary that took place in downtown Silver Spring, according to a department press release. The incident occurred at about 1:49 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Noon Store at 7902 Georgia Ave. Police responded to a 911 call that the glass front door had been shattered.

Takoma Park Adopts Housing, Economic Development Plan

The Takoma Park City Council has adopted a long-term housing and economic development strategic plan, city officials announced. The 2019-2030 Housing and Economic Development Strategic Plan is designed to be a “coordinated approach needed to move Takoma Park towards a ‘Livable Community for All’ for this and future generations,” according to the introduction.
