AAHP Adds Two Videos Featuring Local Media Personalities to COVID-19 Campaign

The African American Health Program has released two additional videos, each featuring a local media personality, in its campaign to urge the African American community to get tested for COVID-19. Comedian and WPGC 95.5-FM host Joe Clair along with Fox 5 Morning News anchor (and county resident) Wisdom Martin both talk about the need to “Don’t Stress, Take the Test,” the campaign’s tagline.

The African American Health Program has released a new video in its campaign to urge the African American community to get tested for COVID-19. The new video features county resident and Vietnam War veteran Dr. Raphael Gray, who sees a parallel between that war and the current pandemic.

Local Nonprofit Marks an Unexpected Anniversary

A local nonprofit is marking a one-year anniversary this month that they never expected to see. Community Connections was started in March 2020 by Silver Spring Cares, founded by Liz Brent, owner of Go Brent, a local real estate agency. The program’s purpose was to raise funds to help both food-insecure residents and local restaurants hit by the pandemic.

CBS Sports Anchor Shoots PSA for Local Nonprofit’s COVID-19 Campaign

CBS Sports anchor James Brown has shot a public service announcement as part of a local nonprofit’s campaign to urge the county’s Black residents to take a COVID-19 test.“ As you know, coronavirus infection rates have risen in the Black community. As a Maryland resident, I am happy to share that the African American Health Program is hosting free COVID-19 testing sites in Montgomery County,” Brown says in the PSA.

Timebank’s Skill Share Presentations Go Virtual This Year

The fifth annual Skill Share presentations from the Silver Spring Timebank will be held virtually this year on Sunday, Feb. 25 from 1:45–4:30 p.m., the group has announced. The free event offers participants the opportunity to learn from other residents, all Timebank members, new skills or other relevant information. Since it is held in Zoom and the SSTB Facebook page this year, anyone can join from anywhere.
