Thanks to federal COVID-19 grants, free outdoor WiFi is now available in front of the Silver Spring Civic Center at Veterans Plaza and 10 county libraries.
A partnership of three individuals have applied for a liquor license to operate Shalla Restaurant and Bar at 8081 Georgia Ave., the former location of Balagger Lounge and, prior to that, Jackie’s Restaurant. The principals of Triple Brothers LLC are Belete Weletaw, Mekonnen Eshete, both of Washington, D.C., and Temesgen Gebeyehu, who lives in the Hillandale neighborhood of Silver Spring.
Silver Spring’s Caitlin Taylor will compete on Cakealikes, a new comedic cake competition show premiering January 4 on the Discovery+ streaming service.

The county is looking for a program manager for the Silver Spring Urban District. The Urban District staff provides support for the Central Business District, maintaining streetscapes and public amenities including plantings, seating, shelters and public art.
