Some Restrictions on Parks, Libraries Lifted This Week

The county’s parks and library branches this week will begin lifting some restrictions imposed as part of the COVID-19 lockdown and offering certain services and amenities. Beginning today (June 29), Montgomery Parks will be reopening playgrounds to patrons under certain guidelines, and library book drops will open for returns (with some exceptions).

Parks Foundation Reaches Civil Settlement in Theft Case

The Montgomery Parks Foundation has reached a $300,000 civil settlement with a former employee accused of misappropriating foundation funds, according to a statement from John Robinson, the foundation’s president. Robinson discovered discrepancies in the foundation’s bank statements and other financial records in mid-January. The Maryland-National Capital Park Police and the county’s State’s Attorney Office investigated the case.

Parks to Present Pilot Proposal for E-bikes, E-scooters on Trails

Montgomery Parks will present a proposal to the Planning Board this week to allow a pilot program that would permit e-bikes and e-scooters on certain trails in the park system.
