A fireworks show at Takoma Park Middle School will close the 129th Takoma Park Independence Day celebration tomorrow.

The school at 7611 Piney Branch Rd. is also the site of the evening program that starts at 7 p.m.

The celebration will include performances from Elena & Los Fulanos (a bilingual folk-rock band), AcroAirs from Washington Adventist University and the Takoma Park Community Band conducted by Marcia Diehl.

Weather permitting, the fireworks will start at about 9:30 p.m. (rain date is the first clear evening after tomorrow).

The celebration will start with the annual parade at 10 a.m. Units will start at the intersection of Carroll and Ethan Allan avenues, march south on Carroll, turn right onto Maple Avenue and will end at Ritchie Avenue. This year’s Grand Marshall is the city’s new police chief, Chief Antonio “Tony” DeVaul.

Parade winners will be announced during the evening program.

The celebration is organized and financed by the all-volunteer, nonprofit Takoma Park Independence Day Celebration Committee Inc. One of the ways the group raises money for the parade is with a raffle held on the Fourth. Tickets are available at the Old Takoma Ace Hardware, and the drawing for prize winners will be held during the evening program.
