According to a post on its Facebook page this week, Main Street Pearl aims for a March 1 opening of its bubble tea café.
The retail operation is open, but the shop is awaiting food license approval from the county before it can start café operations.
“We have been trying to spread the news far and wide: We are WAITING (and waiting and waiting) on our food license from MoCo before we can fully open the cafe part of Main Street Pearl,” the Facebook post reads. “We are expecting it to come through around March 1st, and will be sure to share the news far and wide.
“Once we get the license, we’ll not only have bubble tea (made with @drinkcivilitea), but we will have Nagadi Coffee pour-overs and drip, Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats fresh cookies and buns, Blue Ridge Bucha ON TAP so you can refill at the kegerator, nuts, popcorn, snacks, and some excellent wraps, quinoa bowls, and overnight oats. IT’S GOING TO BE AWESOME….in a few more weeks.”
We reported last December that Leandra Nichola, a longtime Takoma Park resident, is opening Main Street Pearl at 7050 Carroll Ave. serving bubble tea and other “bubble” drinks including beer, wine, cider, kombucha, and scratch soda. The shop replaces Great Shoals Winery Tasting Room, which opened in Takoma Park in 2018 and closed at the end of 2020.
Main Street Pearl opened its retail operation in Takoma Park at the end of January, after a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised nearly $16,000. “WE DID IT! BREATHE. We’re OFFICIALLY OPEN for retail,” the shop wrote in a January 30 Facebook post. “What does that mean? We have packaged beer, wine, cider, sake, coffee beans, tea, art, gifts, games, and MORE in our retail shop.”
