Takoma Park Police Make Arrest in Two Fatal Shootings

Takoma Park police have arrested David Hall Dixon of the 7300 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park in connection with the shooting deaths of two men early Wednesday morning, April 7, according to a press release.

Dixon, an officer from the Pentagon Force Protection Force Agency who was off duty at the time, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, and reckless endangerment.

The victims were identified as Dominique Williams, age 32, of the 7600 block of Allendale Circle, Hyattsville, and James Lionel Johnson, age 38, of the 3300 block of Princess Stephanie Court, District Heights.

Officers responded at about 5 a.m. Wednesday to multiple reports of shots fired in the parking lot area of the Takoma Overlook Condominiums at 7333 New Hampshire Ave.

When they arrived, Dixon approached, telling the officers he observed what he thought was a car being broken into. The suspects ignored his direction, he said, attempted to flee in a vehicle, at which time Dixon fired his service weapon.

“Mr. Dixon has also been charged with attempted second-degree murder and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony in the assault against Michael Thomas, age 36, of Washington, D.C., who was the driver of the vehicle Mr. Dixon shot into,” the release said.

Dixon was taken into custody this morning without incident.

The police department will hold a press briefing at 2 p.m. today (April 9), which will be broadcast live on the city’s Facebook page.
