Takoma Park Farmers Market to Kick Off 38th Season on Sunday

The Takoma Park Farmers Market will kick off its 38th season this Sunday, April 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., according to an announcement from Main Street Takoma.

“Summer vendors return to join year-round vendors to offer seasonal produce, pasture raised meats and eggs, cheese, butter and milk, baked goods and breads, fermented foods, prepared foods, grains, flowers, plants, mushrooms, jams, sauces and more – all produced within 125 miles of Takoma Park,” said Laura Barclay of the Old Takoma Business Association in an email received by the Source.

“Radishes, spring onions, pea shoots, baby kale, spinach, collards, arugula, salad mix, radishes, Brussels sprouts, kalettes, sweet potatoes, potatoes, onions, carrots, apples, broccoli, cabbage and from the greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, eggplants, basil, watercress and more. Asparagus coming soon!”

To aid in social distancing, the market asks shoppers to enter at 6931 Laurel Ave. and exit onto Eastern Ave. Masks and social distancing are required. To speed up shopping, customers may check the website for vendors offering pre-ordering options for pickup. The market requests that there be no eating in the market, and they encourage customers to enjoy market snacks in the adjacent Streetery on Laurel Avenue.

SNAP/EBT & WIC are accepted, and the market currently offers up to $10 in matching dollars thanks to Maryland Market Money.
