COVID-19 vaccination and testing have been added to this weekend’s Takoma Park Street Festival, city officials announced Monday.
“Thanks to the Montgomery County Dept. of Health and Human Services, the festival will now host a COVID vaccine and testing site during festival hours in front of 7000 Carroll Avenue,” reads a news release. “The Pfizer vaccine will be offered. Unvaccinated persons, persons seeking 2nd doses, and persons approved for booster shots and 3rd doses may receive a vaccine at the event. Persons seeking a 2nd or 3rd dose or booster are encouraged to bring their vaccination card. No reservation is required.”
Changes to the festival’s layout were also announced in the news release. “The festival layout has been changed to allow more space for visitors to spread out and safely enjoy the event. Booths will be placed on one side of the street only. Stages will have a perimeter to increase space between performers and the audience. All festival visitors over the age of 12 are encouraged to be fully vaccinated and all visitors are asked to wear a mask when not eating or drinking. There will not be any children’s inflatables this year.”
According to the news release, entry may occur all along the festival route, but there are two main entrances at either end of the festival:
- Carroll Avenue at Eastern Avenue, NW: Take Metro’s Red line to the Takoma station or park in the Metro parking lot. The entrance is 3 blocks away.
- Carroll Avenue at Philadelphia Avenue: Free parking lot hosted by the TPSS Co-op at 201 Ethan Allen Avenue. The Festival entrance is .5 blocks away.
Main Street Takoma announced earlier this year that the Takoma Park Street Festival would be returning for 2021, after being canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are thrilled to announce that the 40th annual Takoma Park Street Festival will be back live and in full swing on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 from 10 am to 5 pm, rain or shine,” Main Street Takoma announced in August.
“We’ve missed you and can’t wait to welcome our vendors and visitors this fall. The festival will follow the most up-to-date CDC and County protocols relating to Covid-19 and large outdoor events, so check back frequently for updates. We’re all in this together, so please get vaccinated and don’t come if you aren’t feeling well.
“The festival will once again showcase original artwork, prints, ceramics, silk-screening, bath and body care, jewelry, woodworking, textiles, leather goods and more, plus food for days, and live music on three stages throughout the event. Come out and support your favorite local businesses, bands, artists and community groups as we celebrate 40 years of the festival.”
