The City of Takoma Park will host a book talk with Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-District 8) on Monday, September 12, officials announced.
Rep. Raskin will discuss his latest book, Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy. According to the book’s description, Unthinkable “tells the story of the forty-five days at the start of 2021 that permanently changed his life—and his family’s—as he confronted the painful loss of his son to suicide, lived through the violent insurrection in our nation’s Capitol, and led the impeachment effort to hold President Trump accountable for inciting the political violence.”
Unthinkable is a New York Times #1 Best Seller.
“A longtime resident of Takoma Park, Raskin and his family are known to many of us as neighbors and friends, while the rest of the country knows him as a Congressional leader who led the impeachment of Donald Trump,” the event announcement reads. “It seems fitting that this conversation will take place on the 208th anniversary of the defense of Fort McHenry, commemorated in Maryland as Defender’s Day.“
The event will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, September 12, at the Takoma Park Community Center Auditorium, 7500 Maple Ave. Seating is first-come, first-serve; however, a live stream of the event will be held on Zoom.
