Police in Takoma Park are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery that occurred at a Wells Fargo Bank ATM on Thursday evening.
Officers responded at approximately 6:03 p.m. Thursday to the Wells Fargo Bank in the 1100 block of University Blvd. East for the report of an armed robbery, according to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy.
When the victim was leaving to get into his vehicle, an unknown suspect approached him and demanded money while threatening him verbally and with a gun. The victim complied. The suspect fled on foot toward the T-Mobile store on University Blvd. East.
A witness indicated that the suspect walked from T-Mobile to Starbucks in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Ave. A canvass of all surrounding areas was conducted with negative results, Plevy said.
In video surveillance footage from a nearby business in the 1100 block of University Blvd., a suspect matching the suspect description entered a parked white four-door, newer-model sedan with tinted windows and a sunroof and fled toward New Hampshire Ave.
Plevy said that the suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately in his 20s. He was last seen wearing a white face covering, a black jacket/sweater, and red pants and armed with a gun.
Anyone with information about this armed robbery, or who knows the identity of the suspect, is asked to contact Takoma Park Police at (301) 270-1100.
