Police Seek Suspect in Armed Home Invasion Robbery

Takoma Park Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in an armed home invasion robbery that occurred on Tuesday morning.

Officers responded at approximately 9:59 a.m. on Tuesday to the unit block of Philadelphia Ave. for a report of an armed home invasion robbery, police spokesperson Cathy Plevy said in an emailed community advisory. A male suspect wearing black clothing and a full mask covering his face walked into the victim’s kitchen and placed an object against the back of her neck and demanded property (the victim believed it to be a gun or a taser). The victim complied. In addition to stealing property, the suspect forced the victim into a closet in the back bedroom while rummaging through her purse.

The suspect fled the residence with property and the victim’s car keys. However, he was unable to take the victim’s vehicle due to a vehicle blocking the driveway. The suspect fled on foot running towards Carroll Ave. from Park Ave.

All surrounding jurisdictions were provided with a lookout. K9 tracking conducted with the assistance of Montgomery County Police yielded negative results. Several witnesses were identified during a neighborhood canvass, Plevy said.

The suspect was described as a Black male, approximately 5’11 and 180 lbs, in his 20’s, last seen wearing all dark clothing and carrying a backpack.

Anyone with information about this home invasion robbery is asked to call Takoma Park Police at (301) 270-1100.
