Police Warn of PayPal Unathorized Transaction Scam

Police in Takoma Park are warning residents of a scam involving a fake PayPal e-mail or text message claiming unauthorized transactions.

“Did you receive a text or email that looks like this? It’s a scam trying to garner personal information from you and then steal from you,” reads an emailed community advisory. “Don’t fall for it. Ignore the message! Do not click on suspicious links, don’t return these types of phone calls, and don’t provide personally-identifying information.”

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) can be notified of scams by e-mail at spam@uce.gov or via the FTC’s website.
