Takoma Park Hit-and-Run Update: New Details on Suspect Vehicle and Victim Identification

Montgomery County Police continue to investigate a fatal hit-and-run with a pedestrian that occurred in Takoma Park earlier this month.

In an updated press release issued Monday, police identified the victim as 42-year-old Candido Noe Rojas Rojas of Takoma Park.

At approximately 1:17 a.m. on June 3, officers from the Takoma Park Police and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service personnel responded to the 1100 block of University Blvd. East, close to the Mega Mart Latino Supermarket, following reports of a man found lying in the road with head injuries.

Detectives determined that a westbound vehicle struck Rojas Rojas, fled the scene on Lebanon St., and entered Prince George’s County.

Officers discovered the victim in the eastbound lanes of University Blvd. East and took Rojas Rojas to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C., conducted an autopsy and concluded that the injuries were likely caused by a vehicle.

After reviewing additional video evidence, detectives have obtained a better description of the suspect’s vehicle, which is believed to be a 2014-2017 dark-colored, possibly black, Chevrolet Silverado 1500. MCPD said any damage to the vehicle would be on the left side and would appear to be minor.

Police said that the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives at (240) 773-6620 or [email protected].
