Takoma Park’s Bienvenido Martinez Earns Emmy for Camera Work in Fentanyl Documentary

Takoma Park City TV video photojournalist Bienvenido Martinez won an Emmy Award for his camera work in a documentary about the fentanyl crisis.

The documentary Tras la Sombra del Fentanilo was honored at the 66th Annual Capital Emmy Awards (PDF) in the Societal Concerns—Long-Form Content category. Martinez, producer/host Andrea Sarralde, editor Nestor Bravo, and director/producer Eduardo Lopez were honored.

City TV collaborates with Linea Directa, a long-standing local TV show that focuses on issues within the Hispanic community and is broadcast on Telemundo and Takoma Park TV channels. As part of this collaboration, CityTV assisted in producing an episode titled “Línea Directa—Peligro del Fentanilo—Entrevista con Elena Suárez,” which included the Tras la Sombra del Fentanilo documentary.

According to a Takoma Park news release, “The documentary is a heartbreaking story of one family’s unwanted journey into the Fentanyl world, a teenager’s overdose, and the devasting consequences and the loss of their daughter that will impact the entire family for the rest of their lives!”
