Soko Butcher is poised to take over the historic Harvey’s Market in D.C.’s Union Market District this week, marking a significant transition as owner George Lesznar retires after over 40 years at the shop.
Lesznar sold the stall and the rights to Harvey’s name to Brad Feickert, the chef and owner of Koma Café and Soko Butcher in Takoma Park and at the Solaire Social food hall in downtown Silver Spring.
According to Eater D.C., Harvey’s by Soko will offer a wide range of high-quality meats, including popular cuts like pork chops, lamb, and whole chickens, as well as signature meaty sandwiches, dry-aged steaks, and ready-to-eat options, expanding upon the offerings that Soko Butcher has provided since its opening in 2022.
Feickert told Eater D.C. that he aims to uphold Harvey’s tradition by collaborating with farms in Maryland and Pennsylvania to source pasture-raised animals and is dedicated to promoting responsible meat consumption among meat-eaters.
The official transition to Harvey’s by Soko is set for Wednesday, April 9.
