PollySue’s Vintage Shop in Takoma Park will close at the end of the year, according to an announcement from the owner that was shared by Main Street Takoma.
The announcement from owner Susan Collings came on Nov. 1, 19 years to the day after the shop opened in 1999.
“Jackie and I have both decided that it was time to do different things, and that we needed a break from the hard work of retail sales,” Collings wrote. “I wanted to stay open through the holidays to say goodbye and to pull out some treasures that I have hidden in my archives.
“My desire to find and share the most beautiful, one-of-a-kind vintage clothes with others was the motivation to start the business but it because so much more,” she said of the store at 6929 Laurel Ave.
The shop carries women’s vintage clothing and accessories from the 20th century as well as some 19th century items. The inventory includes men’s vintage clothing from the 60s and 70s along with vintage furniture, lamps, and accent items, according to PollySue’s Facebook page.
Customers have included theater companies, fashion stylists, designers and others looking for certain styles or clothing from a particular era.
