Takoma Police to Conduct Active Shooter Training

The Takoma Park Police Department will be conducting four active shooter training scenarios beginning tomorrow at John Nevins Andrews School, according to a department announcement on Twitter.

The school building, located at 117 Elm Ave., is currently unoccupied.

The training will be held Dec. 12, 13, 19 and 20, the department said.

“You may at times hear what sounds like gunshots; the officers will be using non-lethal training ammunition called simunitions, which may sound real,” the announcement continued.

A recent “active shooter” alert, apparently sent by mistake during a training session, caused a lockdown of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and a response from Montgomery County police. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the Washington Post.
